Where are we?
Height Gate (grid reference 972252) is reached by a fairly rough and hilly farm track about one mile (20 30 minutes walk) up from the main A646 Halifax to Todmorden Road. This track is accessible to vehicles with good ground clearance, but there are only two parking spaces at Height Gate.

|How to get there|
Vehicles should be left at the valley bottom in the large bus layby on the main A646. This is 2.1 miles from the traffic lights in the middle of Hebden Bridge, on the right travelling toward Todmorden; if travelling from Todmorden, the layby is on the left about a quarter of a mile beyond the Eastwood Recycling/Waste Disposal Centre. Please do not park elsewhere in the vicinity as most space is for residents only, and such parking leads to complaints to us!
The harsh winter of 2010 and torrential downpours of 2013 and 2015 have deteriorated the track giving access to Height Gate. It is only suitable for vehicles with GOOD GROUND CLEARANCE and 4-WHEEL DRIVE and then only with care and at slow speed (please avoid wheel-spin). We are looking into possibilities to improve the situation. Please read the Visitor's Notes document carefully.
Both Hebden Bridge and Todmorden have railway stations on the Manchester-Leeds line, and buses run regularly along the A646 between the two towns. Get off at the Eastwood bus stop.
|To reach Height Gate from the layby, walk in the Todmorden direction for about 100 metres, turn down Stoodley Glen between the houses, and follow the tarmac road over the canal to the gate at the bottom of the farm track, signposted Height Gate. Follow the winding track up hill, eventually levelling out to pass a farmhouse on the left. Height Gate is the building with prominent white lime pointing at the end of the stretch of straight track in front of you|
